You watch your weight, exercise regularly, take vitamins, make your daily smoothie and...?

My only option there is losing use of my left leg. And, yes, I've had too many drivers try to run me over or drive into me. I see many who run stop signs, even after seeing me coming (I'm too far away to wait for.) How I deal with it is a combination of always being careful (I grew up on a bicycle, so that's kind of second nature) and biking in places that are less well-traveled. I'll cross busy streets, but either when they're empty or use the crossing light, and like Robert Frost, I choose the road less traveled by.
