Few questions for THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH by edgar allen poe!?

The story is an allegory for the imagination of the poet. The poet retreats into the dream world in order to practice his art. The clock chimes represent intrusion of the waking world. The Red Death thrusts him back into reality- he dies... but really, he awakens.
