Why do many American Christians rebuff the idea of applying scientific explanations to acts of God, as if.....?

I don't reject scientific explanations. In fact, I stand in awe of God as the great scientist every time science explains to me how He did something. Just like the explanation of the parting of the Sea of Reeds as due to wind and tidal action--it actually fits exactly with the description of the Bible!
