How does reading books increase intellect ?

Reading books gives you a more open mind. you learn alot of stuff that you wouldnt have known if you havent read. you get history facts thrown at you and you dont even realiz it until someone asks a question. for instance, i didnt know tha t"Hippo" it actually "Hippos" was Greek for "Horse."
