How long should I wait for him?

So my platonic guy friend and I have been cool for the past two years. He knows everything about me and I about him. Two weeks ago our relationship sort of changed and we expressed feelings for one another after he stated we we were pretty much gf/bf without the label. How long do I wait and how do I tell him that I need us to be gf/bf and not pretty much like one. I really can't take the anticipation because everything is so right. I can even now look past the fact that he's like 5'2 and im 5'9.5. We've surped the superficial so much that I don't even see his height. I really like him and want us to work out but im not waiting much longer. He's having ex girl issues (she may be pregnant) and im really feeling as though his putting our status on hold is saying that he has doubts. Whats your take
